Haldis Toppel PPCC Area 3 Representative 2018

Vote for Haldis Toppel

"I am committed to protect and enhance the quality of life of our community and
will listen to your concerns and advocate on your behalf."

Endorsed by current PPCC Area 3 Representative Danielle Samulon.

The Pacific Palisades Community Council (PPCC) holds area representative elections for each of its eight areas and one at-large representative, every two years. The PPCC is viewed as the voice of the residents of Pacific Palisades by our neighboring communities, and by elected officials and representatives in the city of Los Angeles, the County and the State. The PPCC Area representatives bring their own community's needs before the PPCC to gain support. They also take information back to their community on local and city-wide concerns, projects, laws, and regulations.

Personal Statement of Haldis Toppel,
a 43 Year Resident of Marquez Knolls.
PPCC Area 3 Candidate

As a family, we have a long history of community service in Pacific Palisades.  My late husband Kurt was President of PPCC.  He received the Pacific Palisades Sparkplug and Citizen of the Year Awards for fundraising and construction of the Palisades Park "New Gym."  My son Curt graduated from St. Matthews where he participated in many community service projects.

I have served in the past as PPCC Secretary and Vice President.  I am current and past  President of the Marquez Knolls Property Owners Association (MKPOA) .   I am past President of the Pacific Palisades Woman's Club (PPWC), an organization that serves over 50 local service and charitable organizations through its philanthropic efforts. I am committed to protect and enhance the quality of life of our community and will listen to your concerns and advocate on your behalf.

I started my career as a flight attendant for Continental Airlines, became a commercial pilot and flight instructor, managed a flight operation at Van Nuys Airport, and ultimately spent the next 30 years in Information technology, both in the public and private sectors, during the most exciting times in human history.  I headed the $3-$5 million/day parimutuel accounting systems at Santa Anita Race Track, a newly developed artificial intelligent inventory control and invoicing system for a $3 billion a year electronics company, and eventually worked for the City of LA as Information Systems Manager for 20 years.  There, I lead the Section charged with the study, integration, implementation, and training for all 35 City Departments of the emerging information technology:   the leading edge PCs, laptops, communications interfaces, and servers.

Through my past experience I have gained a deep understanding of the City's inner workings, politics, and organizational structure, its Municipal Code, CC&Rs, the Zoning Regulations, and through close working relationships with LAPD, its code of honor.  Appointed by then Councilman Rosendahl, I served as Marquez Knolls liaison to the community task force charged with making recommendations for the site of a future DWP distributing station.

I am a member of MKPOA, PPWC,  the West LA Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB),Theater Palisades, The Villa Aurora, the German American Club of Santa Monica, and the Enzian Ski and Golf Club, and also a contributor to PAPA and Movies in the Park. I have a B.A. from the University of San Francisco in Information Systems Management.

I value the work of MKPOA and Save the Bluffs and would be honored with the opportunity to listen to the concerns of Area 3 residents and advocate on their behalf as the next representative to the PPCC.

Thank you for your consideration,
