Volunteers for Monthly Book Sales
Many of the volunteers who have generously volunteered to receive book donations for the Palisades Branch Friends book sales are no longer able to help for a variety of reasons. Therefore, we are in need of new able bodied volunteers who can lift books and would enjoy spending a few hours a month in the Palisades Branch Library. The volunteering shifts are either from 12:30-3:00pm or 3:00-5:00pm on a Tuesday or Thursday once a month.
I schedule the volunteers two months ahead and there is always flexibility in the scheduling. If you or anybody you know are interested in helping with this crucial part of the book sale process please contact me at 310-962-8313 or email me at wendypacpal@yahoo.com. I will be happy to answer all questions and further explain the volunteer position.

“Glad to join my friends in Pacific Palisades this morning for the Grand Opening of the Palisades Library Bookstore! (And pick up a copy of David McCullough's Truman). A project of the Pacific Palisades Library Association, the bookstore will raise money for the local branch library as well as for other branches of the library system. The association, or Friends of the Library, has given money not just to the Palisades Library, but also to the Hyde Park, Ascot, Lincoln Heights, Ben Franklin, Angeles Mesa, Mar Vista, Cypress Park, Exposition, Vermont Square, and Jefferson branch libraries.”
The all-volunteer book
store sells gently used books at gentle prices.
Special Thanks go to the Friends of the Library and to Sandy Eddy who
has tirelessly promoted this event. Her
enthusiasm, persuasion and infectious smile has made this a huge success. It will continue to serve our community for
years to come.
Each visitor received
a coupon for a free book. Refreshments
were served and an overflow crowd gathered at the library, the patio book store
and the happily decorated patio in the back of the library. You could meet Who-is-Who of the Palisades,
all with books neatly tucked under their arms.
“Since the opening in July with a 3-day per week schedule, the response from the Palisades community has been great,” said Wendy Edlen, VP of Book Sales for Friends of Palisades Library. “Adding additional days will make it more convenient for shoppers and will help raise additional funds for Library programs and materials,” Edlen continued.
In addition to selling gently used hardbacks and
paperbacks in fiction, various non-fiction and children’s categories, the store
also carries books on CD, music CD’s and DVD’s. Inventory is added to the store
on a weekly basis. Visit friendsofpalilibrary.org
